If you have searched for a way to practice typing on classic books, you have probably found both Typersguild and TypingProo. They are not the same kind of site. Typersguild is built around typing complete books, chapter by chapter. TypingProo is a free typing test with games, plus a Story Mode that uses short selections from 20 classic works.

This is a fair, side-by-side look at both, written by the Typersguild team. We checked TypingProo's home page, Story Mode, games, typing test, terms, and privacy policy on 27 October 2026 for every claim about TypingProo below. If something has changed since then, tell us and we will update this page.

The short answer

  • Pick TypingProo if you want timed tests, typing games, exam-style practice, or tests in Hindi and other languages, and you are fine with ads and progress that stays in one browser.

  • Pick Typersguild if you want to type complete books, save progress across devices, upload your own EPUB or TXT files, and skip display ads.

  • TypingProo is free. Typersguild's public library is free. Premium is $4.99 a month or $47.99 a year, with a 30-day trial.

What both sites get right

Both give you classic prose instead of only random word lists, and both let you start without creating an account. That is the useful overlap. The split is what you type, for how long, and how the product is paid for.

Library: complete books vs short selections

On 27 October 2026 the Typersguild library listed 83 public books. You type the book itself, paragraph by paragraph, through its chapters. Dracula is 598 pages. Alice in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice, and The Jungle Book are in the same catalog. When you want something shorter than a chapter, Wikipedia mode lets you type an article.

TypingProo's Story Mode offers 20 classic works, including Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, Pride and Prejudice, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The same page is explicit: these are short selections, not complete books. Each title currently has nine segments arranged into three groups. The Metamorphosis exercise is labeled as an English retelling. The Dracula practice page lists three passages split into nine segments, about 659 words — a practice selection, not a complete edition.

If you want to type a whole novel, Typersguild is the better fit today. If a few short passages are enough, TypingProo's Story Mode is simpler: no account, and the next segment is waiting in the browser.

Games, timed tests, and exam practice

This is where TypingProo is stronger.

The test page shows timed sessions of 15, 30, 60, and 120 seconds, plus 5, 10, and 15 minutes, and a word-count mode. Punctuation and numbers can be toggled. The home page describes the same range: 15 seconds to 15 minutes. The games page lists eight free browser games: Nitro Speed, Stickman Fighter, Keyboard Jump, Type Toss, Letter Dash, Fly Mode, Word Destroyer, and TypeRush Blitz. Footer links also point to SSC and CPCT exam practice and a Hindi typing test.

Typersguild does not offer a timed typing test, a game mode, or exam simulations. It is built around books, Wikipedia articles, live WPM and accuracy, n-gram letter pairs, and a public leaderboard.

If you like racing a clock, flying a plane with your WPM, or rehearsing an exam format, pick TypingProo. If you want a chapter to pull you through a longer session, pick Typersguild.

Ads, accounts, and price

TypingProo's terms say the service is provided at no cost and is supported by display advertising. The privacy policy (last updated 19 October 2026) says practice data stays in the browser, while Google Analytics and Google AdSense can receive information about the visit. There is no account and no subscription. Personal bests and story progress are stored in local storage, so they do not follow you to another device.

Typersguild's public library is free. You can start without an account; sign in with Google, Discord, or X to save progress. Pricing lists Premium at $4.99 a month or $47.99 a year, both with a 30-day trial. The privacy policy describes Polar for payments, PostHog for product analytics, and Sentry for errors. It does not describe display advertising.

TypingProo wins on “never pay, never sign up.” Typersguild wins if you want cloud progress, no display ads, and the option to upload your own books.

Typing your own books

Typersguild Premium lets you upload up to 50 EPUB or plain-text books for private practice. Uploads are tied to your account and sync across devices.

The TypingProo home, Story Mode, and terms pages checked on 27 October 2026 describe tests, games, a daily challenge, and story selections. They do not describe an EPUB, PDF, or TXT upload for your own books. If that is the job, Typersguild is the one that offers it today.

So which should you choose?

Choose TypingProo if:

  • you want timed tests from 15 seconds to 15 minutes,

  • you want typing games,

  • you want SSC, CPCT, or Hindi test practice,

  • short classic selections are enough, or

  • you want a free tool with no account, and you accept ads and browser-only saves.

Choose Typersguild if:

  • you want to type complete books, chapter by chapter,

  • you want a larger public library (83 complete books on 27 October 2026),

  • you like Wikipedia sessions between chapters,

  • you want n-gram stats, a leaderboard, and progress that syncs when you sign in, or

  • you want to upload your own EPUB or TXT files.

The honest split is length and extras. TypingProo is the better typing-test-and-games site that also has short book passages. Typersguild is the better place to type a whole book.
